National Institutes of Health K Award Support

About NIH K Award Support

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) K awards provide a mentored research training experience for senior postdoctoral fellows or junior faculty candidates. These awards are designed to promote career development and move recipients to the point where they are able to conduct independent research and compete for major grant support.

To support SDSU faculty members and postdoctoral fellows in submitting grant proposals for NIH K awards, Research Advancement organizes an annual workshop. At this workshop, faculty who have been recipients of this prestigious award discuss their K award experiences and offer tips.

The NIH K award workshop and support for academic year 2026-2027 has yet to be determined, but will be announced soon.
