Research Operations Policies
Policies Governing Research
Multiple policies governing research by faculty, staff and students are created, reviewed and approved through the University Research Council, a subcommittee of the University Senate. These policies are reflected in the Senate Policy File. Such policies include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Research Equipment
- Copyrights, Trademarks and Trade Secrets
- Patents
- Classified, Controlled Unclassified, Proprietary or Confidential Research
- Titles and Appointments of Research and Clinical Faculty
Space Policies
The Space Management Committee provides a structured, data-informed process for prioritizing and allocating space across the university. Each College has their own space policy governing research space that can be found on their respective College SharePoint pages.
Additionally, research conducted in spaces owned or managed by the San Diego State University Research Foundation should follow San Diego State University Research Foundation policies.
Research Support Funds (RSF)
Please see the SDSU Research Foundation Research Support Funds (RSF) SharePoint pages (SDSU login required) for information regarding the Foundation's RSF policy and RSF distribution updates.
If you have questions about Research Support Funds, please email [email protected].
Research Integrity
SDSU requires faculty, staff and student researchers to uphold integrity and accountability when conducting research.
Centers & Institutes Policy
To facilitate required reporting to the California State University Chancellor's Office, SDSU has an official policy on creating and updating centers and institutes.
Questions about Policies?
Although many of these policies are primarily determined by other divisions of the university or auxiliaries, the Division of Research and Innovation Operations team may be able to help answer questions about these policies.
