Grad Slam

The College of Graduate Studies has partnered with the Division of Research and Innovation to host the SDSU Grad Slam competition (a.k.a. 3-Minute Thesis) as part of the SDSU Student Symposium (S3). This event provides an additional opportunity for SDSU master’s and doctoral students to showcase their research, scholarship, or other creative work.

The SDSU Grad Slam competition will take place virtually in Spring 2026.

This format simulates the actual CSU-wide Grad Slam competition which is to be held virtually via Zoom later in Spring 2026. It also enables master's and doctoral students to separately present at the SDSU Student Symposium.

During the competition, graduate students will be judged by a panel based on their ability to successfully engage a non-specialist audience while communicating key details about their research, scholarship, or other creative work in three minutes or less with just a single PowerPoint slide.

Registering to Participate in Grad Slam

Instructions on how to register for the 2026 Grad Slam will be released in the fall semester. Participation is not guaranteed; the College of Graduate Studies will review interested participants and invite finalists to compete.
