Tips for Attending the SDSU Student Symposium

Not presenting at S3 but still want to attend? Great! Students and community members are welcome to attend even if they are not presenting a project.

Types of Sessions

There are four types of sessions: poster presentations, oral presentations, theater presentations, and exhibits.

Attending poster presentations is a great way to talk with students who are working with faculty in your field!

  1. Once you find a poster you want to learn more about, look for the person standing by the poster and ask "Is this your poster?"
  2. Assuming you get a "Yes," ask the presenter to walk you through their project. (Yup, that's it! You don't even have to read what they have there!)
  3. If you want to know more, follow up with questions about their research project.

Attending oral presentations is easy, just arrive before the session starts if possible. You will hear a series of short presentations (about 10 minutes each), followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer session. You may enter or leave a session in between presentations, but be polite, quiet, and discreet.

For theater performances, presenters are allowed 30 minutes for set-up, their presentation, Q&A and tear-down. Participants and guests are asked to enter or leave the rooms only between presentations.

Maximize your experience at exhibit presentations by actively engaging with exhibitors during the full 90-minute discussion period. Explore a variety of artistic expressions and scholarly investigations, spanning ceramics, socially engaged art practice, and more. Take the opportunity to inquire about the creative processes driving each presentation. Your involvement enhances the experience for both you and the exhibitors.

S³ Bingo

Explore and engage with S³ by participating in a fun bingo game, which will be available to download in the Whova app Community Board. As you attend presentations, listen for the topics/phrases/keywords featured on the bingo card. Add names of presenters (in the square) to the card as you notice the topics/phrases/keywords being used. To win, complete a whole row, column, diagonal line on the bingo card. Then, post a picture of your bingo card on the Community Board!
