How to Apply for Drone Use
All applications must be submitted via InfoReady.
- Access the InfoReady Application.
- InfoReady has transitioned to Single Sign-On (SSO) for enhanced security and ease of access. Alternatively for non SDSU users, to register, select “Register” in the upper right hand corner of the InfoReady homepage.
-
After you have logged in, select the application titled “FAA Drone Committee Application” and then click apply.
- Be sure to fill out the application completely. Failure to provide all requested information may result in a delay in approval or a denial of the application.
This FAA Drone Committee application is required for all faculty and staff using drones or other unmanned aerial systems* (UAS) in their research at SDSU or SDSURF. A new application must be filled out per research project using drones. Researchers currently using drones or other UAS in their research may continue their research activities while awaiting committee approval.
While many drone or UAS uses may qualify under the "hobbyist" exception, the use of a drone or UAS in research at SDSU or SDSURF is not one of them. Some drone use will require special permission from the FAA through a Certificate of Authorization (COA). The purpose of this application is to determine whether your drone use requires a COA, or whether it qualifies under an applicable exception or exemption.
