Funding Undergraduate Research

There are many resources available for funding undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activities.

• SDSU Undergraduate RSCA Program
• SDSU Faculty-Student Mentoring Program
• SDSU Aztec Scholarships often provide funds for students involved some form of research
• National Scholarships and Fellowships
• Funded initiatives and support programs for student RSCA or travel through specific SDSU Colleges
• Grant-funded projects through the SDSU Research Foundation
• Council on Undergraduate Research listing of research opportunities for undergraduates

If funding is not available, it is still possible to participate in RSCA for course credit or on a volunteer basis.

It is rare for undergraduates to be able to secure funding on their own for research, scholarship or creative activities. However, students can and should bring this up with potential or current faculty mentors and offer to help secure funding.

Mentors are encouraged to talk with the Division of Research and Innovation or the SDSU Research Foundation and explore options with various professional organizations that may support undergraduate research.
